TRIP TO JAPAN - KYOTO

This is a continuation of my blog before (Japan Trip - Osaka)

Day 3

After resting all night, we took our journey from early morning from Osaka to Kyoto. We had deliberately chosen lodging near Station for easier access to go to Kyoto.

Kyoto, formerly the capital of Japan. This city is a must visit, especially if you first time going to Japan. Because if you want to feel different atmosphere from Tokyo or Osaka, you have to go to Kyoto! The focus of this journey in Kyoto this time is to visit some of the popular attractions in Kyoto namely Fushimi Inari Shrine and Arashiyama. And the place our first target is Fushimi Inari Shrine.

Fushimi Inari

The route from Osaka to the Fushimi Inari Shrine will be explained below :

  • From Daikokucho Station ride the Midosuji Line train direction to Senrichuo and get off at Yodoyabashi Station

  • At Yodoyabashi Station ride Subway Keihan Main Line and get off at Fushimi Inari Station

  • From Fushimi Inari Station walk about 500m to Fushimi Inari Shrine

Well before the activity of a walk around Fushimi Inari begins, I stopped by first to buy a cake that is in Daikokucho Station.

Daikokucho Station

As soon as we enter the Fushimi Inari Shrine area through its characteristic orange large gate (torii), I see many food merchants, accessories and souvenirs like keychains, refrigerator magnets with a typical torii form Fushimi Inari. For the snacks I see they are selling Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki, cakes, sweets and others which I do not know their name hahaha.

Fushimi Inari Shrine or Fushimi Inari Taisha is also dubbed as a temple of thousand gates (torii gate). Torii gate is lined from around the entrance of the temple to Mount Inari. This temple has also been the setting of the film Memoirs of Geisha.

The red gate turned out to be very long up to the top of the mountain. But if you do not want to go up to the top in midway, you can turn around out of the gate and down through the park.

To enter Fushimi Inari doesn't need any money a.k.a. FREE and this place is open for 24 hours.

Thousands of Torii Gate

Fushimi Inari area is very wide and can not be explored within a few hours. The path does has thousands of this toriies as people have said, so impressive. Shrine with shady trees, will refresh the soul and body. Even from midway we can see the city view down below, it's breathtaking. Walking in one of the most famous tourist attractions in Japan will make you fall in love. Don't forget to prepare the best camera to capture the beauty of Fushimi Inari Taisha!

Arashiyama

I was so interested in this place when I saw photos of the ranks of Bamboo Grooves Arashiyama that looks beautiful. From Fushimi Inari Station, to Arashiyama we pass Kyoto Station, with the following lines :

  • From Fushimi Inari Station ride JR Nara Line towards Kyoto direction to Kyoto Station

  • From Kyoto Station we took the JR Sanin Main Line train to Kameoka (platform 33) and got off at Saga Arashiyama Station

From Arashiyama Saga station we walked to the Bamboo Grooves. It's easy walking in the spring, while the weather is nice the weather still feels cold so even though walking far, we did not feel tired. Moreover, along the way many food shops and souvenirs that has interesting and unique packaging or display.

Bamboo Groves

Bamboo Groves is actually just a street or a path of approximately 500 meters where on the right and left are filled with bamboo forest from areas between Nonomiya Shrine to Okochi-Sanso park. We have plenty of bamboo is in Indonesia, but nowhere has there been collected and planted in one area like this without interspersed with many other plants.

Take a walk here as if we were taken to Japan a long time ago when there was no phone, train or car. The sound of bamboo leaves rustling in the wind and the shade makes the heart feels light. At the beginning of the road to this forest lined several shops selling various handicrafts from bamboo such as baskets, doormats, bamboo boxes and small bags for kimono.

A visit to this place should not be done at the end of the week where visitors are usually very crowded so we can enjoy the beauty of this forest with relax.

Finally we returned to central Arashiyama, looking for an interesting snack and also a heavy meal! The cool, cool weather in Arashiyama made me think of a variety of yummy foods.

In central Arashiyama there's a lot of food and souvenir shops. Here is the place if you want a snack or buy souvenirs. We had time to try the strawberry mochi cake, takoyaki, this small snack tastes awesome. But as usual the price is quite expensive :D

So, finally the visit to Arashiyama closed my walking tour today in Kyoto. Realizing that tomorrow we must go to Tokyo, it's hard to leave Kyoto, a city so beautiful. I still like very much to visit here again including coming to Gion that I canceled in favor of going to Arashiyama.
