Ramadan Iftar Buffet at Warung Turki by Turkuaz

Turkish culture is happening in Indonesia from their movies on television to culinary. Turkish food is not unheard of like kebab is very popular to the people of Indonesia. However, Turkish food is not just kebab. Varieties of typical Middle Eastern food were also present at Warung Turki by Turkuaz in Kemang, South Jakarta. If you are familiar with the name Turkuaz, this restaurant is still a part of the restaurant Turkuaz in Jalan Gunawarman, South Jakarta.

Entering the month of Ramadan, Warung Turki has started preparing special menus for breaking the fast. I was very lucky to get a chance to taste the Ramadan menu in Warung Turki.

Before I explain about the Ramadan menu in Warung Turki, first I want to tell a bit about this restaurant. This is actually the first time I've come here and my first impression: a very nice place.

Although titled Warung, the Warung Turki is far from the Warung impression in general. Typical Turkish nuance is already visible when we open the door of the restaurant. Visitors will see a large oven used for baking sheep. Behind the large oven there is a small kitchen commonly used for serving snacks. This first floor also still has some room for the visitors to eat food they ordered.

Similar decorations are also found on the second and third floors with dim lighting. With these nuances, visitors will feel they were in Turkey when tasting the food.

The 3rd floor is the best spot to dine at night. The interior of the 3 floors are nicely laid out and distinctive with a variety of Turkish knick-knacks and colorful ethnic chandeliers. Half of the walls are covered with mirrors to the top. There are also artificial trees that hung with ethnic lights on several sides that give the impression of greenery. Further into the night, the atmosphere will turn into semi romantic because of minimal lighting, usually the 3rd floor is more often used to hang out with friends while enjoying shisha.

During the month of Ramadan, many visitors choose to break their fast in this restaurant that has been operating since 2015. The star meal and the main course menu is Baby Lamb Baked in Salt, in the form of flavored lamb left marinating overnight. After that wrapped by aluminum foil and salt and then baked for about four hours. The purpose of the salt dough layer is to retain heat in the meat that was grilled for 8 hours.

Gavurdagi Salatasi, this is the appetizer menu that contains cucumber, tomatoes and walnuts with pomegranate sauce and extra virgin Turkish olive oil. All the vegetables were chopped nicely and evenly, I like the acidity that added the flavor to the whole dish. Simply refreshing.

Zeytinyagli Hummus, Chickpeas and tahini with organic extra virgin olive oil. Hummus is a grinded Arab nuts mixed with olive oil, sesame seed dough, lemon juice, salt, and garlic. It tastes salty and has soft texture.

Bademli Balik, Panned grilled fillets of marinated dove sole fish, roasted sliced almond and trio paprika.

Tavuk Testi Kebabi, Four hours wood clay oven baked chicken kebab. This cooking method will make the meat feel soft and will melt in the mouth. Hmmm... must have made drool, right?

Yaprak Sarma, Stuffed wine leaves with ground lamb, pillav, selection of vegetables with yoghurt garlic sauce.

Peynirli Kebab. The kebabs are delicious, the flavor is very turkish, and the meat is also tender.

Coming to Turkish restaurant, it's not complete if you don't enjoy the dessert snack, Baklava. The famous cake with a pretty sweet taste is indeed quite popular and has been easily found in Indonesia. In Warung Turki, you will find three flavors of tasty baklava which are walnuts, pistachios and hazelnuts which each have a different taste sensation. If it's too sweet for you, baklava is usually enjoyed together with a cup of coffee or the Turkish tea without sugar.

Turkey has a unique dish that is very unique as a dessert named Gullac, puddings made from milk and rose water with added pomegranate seeds are sprinkled on top as a complement. Suitable for breaking the fast because it tastes sweet.
